Obeid replied really quickly to our e-mail and we telephoned him with a sudden change of our plans and he was extremely accommodating. He sent us a picture of his son along with the car he would pick us up in and he was extremely friendly and fun to be around. The camp is gorgeous and extremely atmospheric. Obeid&'s sons are excellent hosts and we had a fantastic time. I suggested this camp to other travellers we met in Jordan and rate it extremely highly.

After searching far and wide for a desert camp, I chose Obeid&'s camp for my 2 nights in Wadi Rum. The reviews on his camp sure did help us out because it definitely was an incredible experience that now feels sort of surreal in my memory. I grew up inside the country so camping wasn&'t some thing new to me - but this isn&'t like camping, this a complete other experience. Obied&'s son, Nayel, picked us up from the visitor center and brought us to the camp. Originally, we weren&'t going to do a jeep trip, but after some convincing, we realized it would be a very good idea. We are so happy we did! Nayel took us for three hours to some of the sites also as some of his personal favorite sites. He was the same age as me and my friend (mid-twenties) so it wasn&'t like a guide, it was a lot more like a friend taking us around. He took us to a few tourist stops with other bedouins who were really friendly and offered us tea. We really felt like we had the very best tour guide also when looking at other jeep trips because most of them were just dropping off their groups at the sites and sitting on the side but Nayel told us everything we wanted to know and answered all questions. He even led me to the top of the rock bridge! Soon after the jeep trip we went on a sunset camel ride which was really lovely. Camels are slow, enjoyable fact. Inside the evening, Obied&'s brother and his family joined us for a stunning dinner inside the living room type of tent where we had some really chicken and rice. The family really knows how to cook - there was so much flavor in everything. Soon after that, we sat outside around the fire, had a lot of delicious tea (what is the secret ingredient for that Obied! ) and listened to Obeid&'s other son sing some conventional songs and play a drum while his brother&'s kids danced for us. I really felt like I had been adopted by another family for the 2 1/2 days we spent with this family. It was so comfortable. The desert during the night time was beautiful. The camp was well lit during the night time as well. We had a mattress in our tents and a little light. It was perfectly sufficient and comfy for our two nights. The breakfast the next morning was totally delicious! Hummus, labneh, some kind of fig/honey mixture, pita, etc. Then Obeid drove us to Petra and waited while we were inside. He took us back to the camp afterwards and we relaxed inside the shade, talked, read, enjoyed the sunset and had another delicious dinner - kabsah which is quite famous in Jordan and Saudi - looooved it. We both wished we had limitless stomachs haha. After, we sat and talked, played a conventional bedouin game and drank lots a lot more tea. Soon after another awesome breakfast, Obeid took us to Aqaba and helped us out so much. He called hotels for us and tried to help us locate some thing in our cost range and he hooked us up with a trustworthy cab driver for our trip to the airport at 3 am who turned out to be awesome when we had an early morning crisis with our credit cards at our resort. Anyways, now that I&'ve said my trip in detail, let me give you my opinion. It was an incredible experience. I&'ve never been in a location that is certainly so serene and silent in my life. The stars and moon were so bright and the lighting during the night time made it feel like a fairy tale. It was a silent time for the camp as we were the only two guests but we were treated like component of the family and we&'ve both never experienced such awesome hospitality in my life. I suggest Obied&'s camp over and over again. Inside the beginning, my friend suggested Captain&'s Camp to me (as Lonely Planet does too) but after realizing how touristy it was and its proximity to other camps, it wasn&'t the best, most authentic choice. If you want to experience bedouin life or even just being around Jordanian&'s, go to the camp and experience it for yourself. There is a reason this has a high rating on tripadvisor and hostelbookers. ;)

Very warm and hospitable staff who go out of their way to ensure their guests are happy and looked after. Basic jordanian style breakfast & tasty BBQ dinner! Try to car pool with other guests on the 4x4 trip, it will save you loads of money (80JD per car). I explored on my own for 2 hours but didn't see much and it got very laborious (the distances are very far and sand is soft), the 4x4 trip is a much wiser option. Wadi Rum is an incredible place of serenity and natural beauty.

The hospitality is outstanding! Concerning Wadi Rum itself - the sky during the night time is awesome plus the silence and peacefulness of this place. It is also worth getting up early to watch the sunrise. Enjoyed the microlight ride which really completed this exceptional stay. Thanks!
