It was a household run affair and i was able to`immerse` myself in local culture, including watching a kendo class, run on the premises

The staff here are so nice! Sad to say my Japanese is pretty limited and that made it a little a lot more difficult to meet people during my stay. Whilst the hostel is great, if you are visiting Nikko keep in mind that it is a couple stops away by train at the same time as a 20 minute walk from the station. It would probably be fine inside the summer but less than ideal inside the winter.

The hostel staff were really nice, but only one was very familiar with english. You should choose to eat at the hostel for dinner, as there isn't much around besides 7-11. The dinner they cook looked really good, although I didn't eat it myself. Make sure and tell them when you get there you want dinner, or you wont get it! From the hostel it is a 25 min. walk to the station, and then a 20 minute train to Nikko. It is a bit too far.

Although in a somewhat creepy location, about 30 minutes walk from a train station NOT in Nikko, the hostel was a good base as properly as the staff were extremely friendly.

Awesome place. Nice silent location close to Nikko. Has western-style and japanese-style rooms. Has fantastic japanese style breakfast. The owner took us to a great osen place. it was great. It had an outdoor onsen too.
