The outside of the building looks a little old/dirty, but the inside is not bad. The location close to the beach is great! I suggest this in case you just wish to go to the beach

It is near the beach, if u really desire to spend time on the beach, u can go there.

Good location, near to the very best beach in Yantai, a lot of good restaurants nearby in kaifaqu, and straightforward bus access into town. Extremely clean, and safe lockers in each room. Western style toilets.

There are so many things wrong with this place I hardly know where to begin. If I may quote from the website: "Yantai International Youth Hotel provides tourists from all over the world high-quality and unique service. "First of all next to no English is spoken. Now I don't have a problem with this per se, we are in China after all. However, I do have an issue with the place basking under the Hostelling International slogan. This is not an "international" hostel. There wasn't a word of English posted anywhere on all of their information boards. Nothing. Because they couldn't communicate with us they basically just ignored us after we'd checked in. While we're on the subject of check-in they didn't know how much we had to pay and didn't have any visibility that in fact we'd paid a deposit online. How is this possible They also have no concept of the 'little things' that anybody who knows anything about running a hostel would be on top of. Change behind the counter NO. Toilet roll in your room NO. Clean the room every day, empty bins etc NO. On the morning they did come into clean they were banging on the door at nine in the morning. Moronic. Atmosphere Zero. No music, no place for people to gather and hang out. The place had all the charm of a funeral parlour. "E-library" it exclaims on the website. One run down computer. No WI-FI. The website talks of an onsite 'supermarket. ' What a hoot. This is a locked glass room no larger than a cupboard that houses various buddha statues and high priced that nobody is interested in. The biggest laugh of all was the "self laundry. " This consisted of an empty rooom and a couple of sinks as if the 'self' part somehow alluded that you may contain powers that can magic up a washing machine from out of nowhere. In their defence the room was cleanish upon arrival but again it was just glossed over in a half assed way. Looking under the beds showed cigarette butts, litter, dead insects and all sorts of other untold horrors. It's actually incredible how you can get so many things wrong on so many different levels. It's not rocket science, just plain common sense. With all of these things needing addressing it's doubly annoying that the staff (of which there are many) spend most of the say milling around picking their noses. An overhaul in management would give this hostel the kick up the ass it needs to start attracting an "international" crowd and put a little pride into what they do The best thing about the hostel, strangely enough, was the location which has such a poor rating on hostelbookers. com. If you want to be in central Yantai then ok it's not good. But if you want to spend time at the wonderful beach nearby it's perfect.

The room they put me in was lovely. Very clean. TV, bed, kitchen, nice shower. Only downside was the location was quite faraway from the city centre. Maybe 30 RMB by taxi. Still, I would stay there again.
