Cuxlin Ha Youth Hostel

I just completesd my stay at cuxlin (x=sh) ha. The husband and wife who run are extremely nice. There is a little mayan village on property that they helped to develop. The wife prepares your meals which are all excellent. One day one of the male villages took me on a canoe ride which borders the hostel/hotel. My stay was extremely positive and I would stay there again though location is important. It is about 7 miles outside of punta gorda, 5 miles of highway, which the bus will cost you 1 beliezean dollar. You get it at the junction to the dirt road going to the hostel. The dirt road is two miles long mostly uphill. In case you have a car its no problem, I have a small backpack and a small rolling suitcase which the handle malfunctioned getting off the bus. The walk was a hike from hell within the hot sun. In case you have a phone you can call the owners and they will come pick you up, i have no phone, they did drive me back to the bus wgen i left 4days latter. In case you can successfully deal with the dirt road then I would definately stay there, but in case you have to walk it then give it serious thought. The other people who pass through or are living there are all interesting. The owners are component of a group helping to develop the local people through all kinds of economic plans. There is also a slight religious bent here, all interesting. In summary I would stay here again though the initial walk almost killed me.

Hostel was a little difficult to find, but when you uncover it, there is certainly a lot of charm. It was a little run down, but accommodations were worth the value

I liked the friendliness of the property owner and my room was clean and handy and there was water offered to drink, each from the tap and purified, at no extra charge. However, another traveller who stayed within the room meant for multliple people, said there were ants and it was not clean. My personal expertise however, was pleasing and I got to meet other individuals and also had a pleasing expertise in Punta Gorda meeting the local people. Meals were huge and looked delicious, but a bit pricey for someone who is on a small budget.
